Mastering the American craft of 4-part barbershop harmony, this award-winning chorus has been providing high quality, entertaining performances throughout Colorado Springs and the Front Range for over 35 years. Most recently, the Velvet Hills Chorus had the privilege of sharing the stage with the world-renowned Maureen McGovern; a testimony to the skill, art, and dedication of these fine singers. More than 90 women come from all over the region with the purpose of enriching the lives of its members and the community through education, performance, and musical excellence.
The Velvet Hills Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide organization of women committed to advancing the musical art of barbershop harmony through education and performances. Velvet Hills competes regionally each spring, as do almost all of the Sweet Adelines around the world. The winners of each region's local competition, along with the top five scoring second place choruses ("wild cards") then qualify to compete in an International competition. Velvet Hills has had the honor of competing internationally two times within the last three years, winning a top-ten medal each time! Currently, our chorus members are proudly wearing their 10th place medals won in Las Vegas, Nevada, October, 2006; proudly declaring to the world that we placed 10th out of over 700 choruses worldwide!
Corporations, civic groups, churches, community events and private groups are charmed by these exciting performers who present a unique blend of sound, choreography, costumes and sassy pizzazz!
